Dedicated Hosting is where you have your own server. You lease it (rent it.) You get control over the root of your server and can do what you like. If you have been hosted before and had problems due excessive database usage (like stock photo sites, large forums or large writing sites like fanfiction), you might want to try a dedicated server. Most webhosting companies suspend or even terminate accounts that create excessive bandwidth.
